Les Dinosaures Voient Grand au Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle
De nombreuses images, films ou dessins nous montrent ces gigantesques animaux au long cou bien tranquilles en altitude. Alors lorsqu'une reproduction vous impose un colosse long de 40 mètres, et haut de 4 autobus, la réalité s'avère effrayante mais passionnante. L'exposition "Dinosaure, la Vie en Grand" nous convie au coeur de l'univers des géants, là où l'oeil ridiculement petit de l'homme, a su s'insérer et percer les secrets. Outre l'utilité de leur long cou pour se procurer de la nourriture, le parcours de l'exposition aborde chaque aspect de la vie des sauropodes, comme leur taille incroyablement curieuse qui entraîne de nombreuses particularités. Le muséum a d'ailleurs effectué des comparaisons avec des animaux contemporains afin d'en comprendre les intérêts et les inconvénients.
Les reproductions impressionnantes des géants insistent sur le fonctionnement de leur organisme. Ainsi, la maquette de Mamenchisaurus dévoile le métabolisme d'un animal hors normes ayant vécu il y a 160 millions d'années et pesant dans les 90 tonnes. Les chercheurs se sont intéressés au rythme de vie de ces créatures, leurs habitudes alimentaires, et leur rythme de croissance, sachant qu'à la naissance, les petits ne dépassaient pas les 5 kilos! Pour flirter avec les limites de la science, les études ont pénétré le sauropode jusqu'aux organes. Un tel animal devait forcément être doté d'une machinerie surpuissante... Le coeur, le cerveau, les poumons, et même la peau, chaque parcelle du corps de ce géant a été minutieusement étudiée à partir de fossiles et d'empreintes retrouvés sur chaque continent. Pour les plus petits amateurs, un chantier de fouilles a été reconstitué à la sortie de l'exposition. Pour les autres, les explications passionnées des scientifiques sont présentes dans toute la galerie de l'évolution.
