Une "Nuit" au Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle // A "Night" at the National Natural History Museum

Omar Khayyam, Persian poet, wrote "The night is perhaps the eyelid of the day." Because when people sleeps, another world awakens, and another one continues its way. Night fascinates with its mystery. It scares but seduces too. It comforts and intimidates. That is why the national Natural History Museum proposes the exhibition "Night."
The sun sheds light on the night. It highlights a life. Man is not accustomed to the darkness. He is curious about it but approaching means venturing. Many scientists have been studying the shadows and movements composing it. The exhibition invites us to discover small hidden wonders which are right here when we fall asleep... Four parts compose the exhibition.
The Night Sky
Various sciences have been interested in the night sky for a long time. The stars, this impalpable and vast dark that surrounds us, the moon and its influences ... So many questions and objects used to at least try to answer it. And those unidentified flying objects, what are they?
Night Life in Nature
A walk in the forest blackened by night invites you to meet a rich fauna. The collections of the museum were used of course but other nocturnal specimens were created for the occasion. They enter the fictional night of the exhibition to surprise you ... The Tasmanian wolf, now disappeared, even made the trip! The night birds delight when breaking the silence, will you recognize them? Lucky you are, they let themselves be approached! Discover how those animals can see in the dark and how they can be seen. The exhibition also draws attention to light pollution, as night lighting which have negative effects on the fauna, and we often ignore it.
Night Sleep
Sleep is different according to species. What are the positions adopted during the sleep, and what are the different stages? Is it a a real sleep or just a rest? Do the animals dream? And what about the human sleep? The exhibition gives some tips for a good night because we must not forget that this is essential!
Myths and Monsters
Many stories haunt the dark night. The pleasure of telling joins the shiver of listening to it. But at the the dream time, sleep is disturbed! What do your dreams tell you? And do the shadows of the night have a link with the day life? And the ghost in the closet? How to make it disappear? It is said at the museum , that it is not so bad, and it can even leave the closet very fast ...
The exhibition's path is a walk in the night. It highlights many of the questions that everyone is asking about the night mysteries. Playfully, we learn from the night, by listening, feeling and watching. It is with a childish pleasure and curiosity, but without fear, that we move forward in the middle of this "Night" created for us. After visiting, you will deserve a good night's sleep!
